Re: [flasah] If you are new to leather craft !

Hey Deb. I had the same issue for my motorcycle seat. I started leather in the 70's but in the last 3 or so years I have wanted to tool a seat for the bike. I kept putting it off doing little projects like purses, wallets, belts and such. After making about 50 items both from kits and from scratch (I ran out of people to give things to) I decided ready or not it was time. You might want to consider the same. While I am finishing the last of the stitching and lacing on this seat it has been a challenge and I made enough mistakes that I know I will make another attempt but I learned alot while doing this one.

If you have the books and vids you might want to throw caution to the wind and go for it.

I too have hopes of making my own saddle some day.

I'm new.  I started doing some leather work about 15 years ago. Bought books, bought loads of  stamping tools. Did a few little pieces such as making some tooled stirrup covers.  But that's about it. Everything is packed in a big plastic tub/box.  My goal was SOMEDAY to make my own saddle.  I know I need to take some classes sometime so I can REALLY learn how to do tooling.  Need to become decent at that before attempting the saddle.  I've bought saddle patterns and even have a good number of books on saddlemaking (both English and Western) including all the Volumes of Al Stohlman's books.  I keep dreaming of doing it one day.  But...need training and money. In the meantime, I get a real kick out of finding Youtube videos on leather work, saddlemaking, and such.  If anyone was any favorite links they would like to share, I certainly would appreciate it.
