You can use 3M number 811 tape and it works fine, I have never had it damage leather.  The adhiseve is like what they use on their post it notes.

I would be careful about using tape on the grain side of the leather, It may pull the finish
off, I've had this happen before. If you can fold the acetate film around the back of the
leather and tape it fine...Hank

Tape.........I use Painter's tape to hold things. It comes off without
leaving marks and holds very good.
You didn't ask me, but that's my 2 cents worth. LOL.......
