I don't think you will be happy with the plywood. A piece of HDPE (commercial cutting board) would be the best thing to use. It might be more espensive than the plywood, but it will last a long time and when the surface gets too chewed up it can be sanded down. You will have to go to a plastics supplier or the net to find it. Here is a link for more info. www.professionalplastics.com
