First of all I must say your work is absolutely beautiful. I love the way that you have carved the Magnolia's. My advice is to use as much of your dyes or stains as you can on all of the parts that will be colored something other than white.

When you start to do the white, thin your acrylics down to the consistence of milk and apply a layer and let it dry then add additional layers until you have a god white color.

I am attaching a picture that I just finished where everything except the white was done in High lite stains.

 

After you finish coloring it to your satisfaction you must remember to seal it with at least two or three coats of your SEALER. I  do not know what you use there I use an acrylic High Gloss spray sealer, almost like a clear varnish to seal my work with. I use a spray sealer. If you use a brush to apply a liquid sealer then you need to daub it onto the parts that are acrylics and do not wipe it on because the acrylics sit on the surface and if you wipe too hard with the first coat it could cause it to smear. One other thing to do since this is going to be a Purse and subject to use, you should use a hair dryer to heat up the acrylics and that will help to bind them better to the pores of the leather. I hope these hints will help you.

Here's a pic of the carving I'm going to use the acrylic on.  I'm almost afraid to do it.  I'd hate for it to cover up all the detail.  That's the main reason I took a pic before painting it.

Thanks, James.  That's what I thought but wasn't sure I remembered correctly.  I am making a handbag with a design of white magnolias.  I don't use acrylics except for white.  I'll be using spirit dyes for all other colors.  Of course, this one will be mostly white.  It'll be the first time I've ever used that much acrylic on one job.
