I've used a product from WAWAK called "leather tape."  It is a double sided tape that works exceptionally well!  WAWAK's web site is http://www.wawak.com.  They have great customer service and have been in business as a supplier to the tailoring industry for over 100 years.
 
Contact them and order their leather tape.  It comes in two widths, 1/4" & 1/2"
