Re: [flasah] WHITE DYE....no such thing

Hello Allen,

...dye is made from 'Dye-stuffs' (strange name I know) and to my knowledge there is no white. White is obtained from 'pigments' which are very different...pigments are the base of paints.

Whenever I have to occasion to use white...I use an 'airbrush' white (obtainable under many brand names from an art supply store). Because these colors are meant to spray through an airbrush, the pigments are very fine. These colors may be thinned with water and some nice effects are possible...but, they can quickly become opaque on leather and give a solid painted look....take care.

If using these 'paints' in an airbrush, it is most wise to also buy some 'airbrush cleaner' (again under a few different brand names).

When asked why I use 'dyes' instead of paint...I say...if you had a piece of timber with a beautiful grain, wouldn't you 'stain' it to enhance that grain?...rather than paint it brown, covering the natural appeal.

Subject: [flasah] WHITE DYE

Up until know when it comes to white I have always used waterdowned white acrylic paints. I am trying to use Fiebings WHITE leather dye. Will any one please enlighten me as to the proper application of this dye to get an even coat or any other suitable white dye on the market for leather.
