Leathercraft Tool

Hi all,
My home machine is an old German Phaff #18...I use a size 16 needle in it
especially for leather and am wondering if anyone knows if I can use a
bigger needle and what size thread will it accomodate? If I can find some
69 mm. I will try that. I think it will sew it just fine.
