[flasah] sewing machine

Hi everyone,
Ok, I need some opinions and advice, not necessarily in that order. LOL
I have been approved thru my rehabilitation counselor (re-hab not for drugs
or alcohol, but for a bad back) to buy up to $1500 worth of supplies to get
me started in the leather business and I'm looking at the Sailrite portable
sewing machine that Springfield Leather Co. has. The sales clerk told me
it would sew 69 mm. thread and up to 138. Are those threads heavy enough
to look great as top-stitching on handbags, wallets, or any other item that
I want to stitch. I know it won't look like the stitching on a saddle, but
is it heavy enough to look good.
And also, does anyone use or know anything about this particular machine?
I live in a mobile home and just simply don't have room for a big machine,
so thought this would serve my purpose well, as I do not want to make big
items like saddles.
I thank all of you in advance for your input on this. I'm looking
forward to hearing your opinions and advice on both the machine and threads.
Diann
