Nice thing about the older machines is they were well built, not like some
the plastic stuff put out these days.
I totally agree that if what you have will handle the leathers you use then
your money would be better spent on other tools and leather.
Test your machine with some scrap leather that you would normally use. Check
for track marks on the leather, if you find none then great,
if you do find track marks you will need to find a different foot with less
sharp teeth or gently file the one you have.
One of the things I like about the Sailrite machines is that I can use it
even without power. It also does a nice clean top and bottom stitch when
properly adjusted.
