[flasah] White dye
The very term dye means "to actually change the color of an item". To do this the item MUST be of a lighter color, since one CANNOT change something to a lighter color than it was at start. (You can ONLY go darker.)
Since white IS the lightest color, one cannot "dye" something white.
Due to tannage, leather will be anywhere from dark beige to concrete to shades of tan. Uric acid (urine) is the only way to produce the lightest color.
Beyond that, "color coating" is required (i.e.paint) Since acrylics are more flexible, they are the preferred method. Cut and look at a cross-section. White leather is usually gray. The white is a coating.
I laugh when someone says, "This is urine tanned" (after smelling the leather.) Evidently they have NEVER been in a radiator shop, a chrome plating shop, or a tannery. Acid smells the same, regardless of origin.
And acid is the key ingrediant to convert raw animal skin to what we call leather.
Leather produced fron "veg" tanning is usually beige to tan. The acid came fron tree bark (hence the term "oak.)" And it SMELLED much better while it was on my grill.
